6dpo no exciting results

It's 6dpo and no exciting results to report today. Tests are the same as yesterday; both negative.

Clear Blue again has a faint line but the equate look alike does not, I'm really starting to dislike Clear blue at this point.. You can see what I mean in the picture, there is a very faint line on the CB.

The reason I know it isn't an early positive is because, 1: I'm only 6dpo and, 2: the nurse told me that the other test WILL get positive before the Clear Blue so I'm expecting that to happen; provided I actually am pregnant.
I'm pretty sure I'm not preggo this cycle, I can just tell. I normally need medical intervention to get pregnant and i haven't received any so, my chances aren't very high...

5dpo testing started yesterday for my clinical trial

OK, So today is 5dpo and it's my second day for testing with my clinical tests. Yesterday a 4dpo I obviously expected to see nothing; that's exactly what i saw, nothing.
I couldn't even see a hint of a line, not that I expected to, I'm just saying.
I completely don't think this is my month anyway so I'm not expecting a positive. My temps aren't higher than normal and i jut don't feel it this month.

It turns out that the avonno tests look and preform what seems to be exaclty like an Equate pink + | test, which I know to be super early tests. Apparently, this test is supposed to be even more sensitive than Equate.

Here is a pic of my tests from today:

The Clear Blue appears to have an extremely, extremely faint line at just the bottom half, which may not be visible in the picture. I don't trust or take any stock in Clear Blue at all as they have tricked me before. I will only believe a positive on one of them if it's a screaming one. the Equate look alike preformed flawlessly and gave me a clear negative.

Upon further inspection of the Clear Blue the very faint thick line has now turned into a more visible very thin line. Hence the reason to never look at a test past the time limit.

I've landed the best gig ever!

Seriously people, I've landed the best gig ever! I'm doing a clinical study on PREGNANCY TESTS!!!! Ahhh, I can't believe it!

I get to tests super early PG tests from day 20 of my cycle, yes day twenty of my cycle!! That should put me at either 5 or 6DPO LOL!! I have exactly 40 HPTs in a huge bag 20 Clear Blue Early and 20 of some super early brand unapproved by the FDA (yet). The nurse running the study seems to think that the Avonno (short for brand name of unapproved tests) will pick up before the clear blue; I know clear blue to be quite sensitive so this should be interesting provided my body does what it's supposed to do and actually gets pregnant.

I'll take pictures as soon as I find my camera; we just moved so it's buried somewhere.
You have to see this bag of pee sticks they gave me I thought I died and when to POAS heaven!! I seriously wanted to dance the jig outside of the building as I didn't have too many details about the trial when I went in.

Oh yeah and the icing on the cake I'm getting PAID to do this and if I don't get pregnant this cycle I can do it again and again!!
I can't believe how sweet it is...ahhhh

Pregnancy Test info, pics and tid bits

I'm going to do my best to give as much info as I know about different brands of pregnancy tests.

The most sensitive pregnancy tests

First and foremost; rightfully earned...

Genzyme OSOM Pregnancy test cards, combo or regular

Here's why: Genzyme pregnancy tests can detect levels of hCG in quantities as little as 2mIU (yes that is 2) at a 20 minute read time. This is supposed to be specified for serum but the Genzyme HCG tests can detect as little a 5miu in urine. Never ever an evap line; I know some things sound to good to be true but I assure this is true. These test are amazing; period.

Point and case: the first tests is my Genzyme test taken at 8dpo the second is my Equate taken at 10dpo

Fact Plus blue dye +-

Here's why: Fact plus was 3 times as dark as my equate on 10dpo, no questioning the line, even DH saw it. Fact plus is supposed to good at picking up h-hCG also.

Blue dye and may develop evaps after the time limit; I've never experienced this but I don't use them that often.
The + line starts to fade pretty quickly.

Dollar Tree pink dye cassette type

Here's why: Affordable and sensitive. These have been known to detect as early as 8dpo.

They can leave nasty evaps

First Response early results / Answer early

Here's why:
They claim to be sensitive enough to test 5 days before your missed period Approx 11dpo. They are incredibly reliable if you have a line you are pregnant evaps are pretty much unheard of.

Early lines can be extremely faint, sometimes very easy to miss. It makes the test hard to read and sometimes even needs to be put up to light or dried to see a faint positive result. This can lead to the woman believing she is not pregnant when in fact she is.

That's all for now.

I'm back after a long break

I took a break there for a while and I'm back now. I'm happy to say that my sister is pregnant YAY!!! She just had her ultrasound today and there was one healthy little bean with a strong heartbeat!

I'm currently experiencing aunt flow...not fun :( BUT I'm optimistic for starting a new cycle. I did make an appointment with a RE (reproductive endocrinologist) a new RE; only new because the RE I used to see is no longer at the practice.
I'm hoping to accomplish a couple of things by seeing a RE. It's funny because pregnancy isn't the first thing on my list. I have been blessed with two wonderful children and my need for another child just isn't that dire. Don't get me wrong it's there but if it doesn't happen I'm completely fine with that. I am lucky enough to have experienced pregnancy and motherhood; there are women who would give anything to be in my shoes. Needless to say I'm happy with what I have but would be happy to have more, I mean who doesn't want more of a good thing.

The main reason for me seeing the RE is to get my PCOS under control. I'm lucky enough to have regular cycles after having 10% of my ovaries removed. I ovulate; I just don't get pregnant. I believe this to be due to the quality of my eggs; at least that what my old RE told me.
I think maybe my Insulin Resistance might be bad but I'm not sure as my primary care Dr. has no idea how to even do a fasting insulin! I asked for it and he made the lab slip for Glycohemoglobin ugh! They are different things. Also when I told my primary that I had PCOS he said "oh no, you're fine" I asked him "what; did you just say that I don't have it?" he said "yeah you're fine, you don't have that" I then laughed and said "yes I do; it's actually been confirmed by ultrasound and blood work" He said "oh, OK" I then said to him " I don't understand why it's so hard to get diagnosed or for Dr.'s to realize that I do actually have PCOS!" He proceeded to say that now there are newer diagnoses and blah blah blah...
He doesn't believe I have it so he won't treat it with what it needs to be treated with Metformin. A RE will treat this and my SLIGHTLY raised TSH levels (that regular Dr. won't fix).
I believe once everything is being treated I will be able to get pregnant on my own; I'm not willing to go through what I did last time. I just hope that it can get fixed, be healthy and pregnancy will be the result.

Then there is always a chance I will get PF before my appointment on Sept 21!! Fingers crossed.

Major temp drop today AF is on the way

My temp is down again this morning which means that AF is coming either today or tomorrow for sure.
Which means that CVS brand tests are garbage. My faint lines meant nothing as did my sisters. If you are planing on testing please use something else because a CVS pregnancy test (with blue dye) can cause false hope. Just scroll down and check the pictures from my earlier post. Not much to update except that I feel grouchy.

I've been slacking on posting; I do apologize as things have been crazy here.

I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant this month. I'm not surprised as our timing was way off and I'm not even sure of the day I ovulated. I still have no clue when I ovulated or when to expect my period.

I've yet to receive my digital HPT's and OPK's, I have no idea where they could be. I didn't think it would take that long for them to get here but who knows.
I'm hoping I receive them today.

because I have no exciting news to update and no faint lines on any tests at all to obsess over I'm going to spend some time adding as much info as I can about different types of pregnancy tests for your reference. I'll be adding it all on the digi test page.....

OPK drama..

My body can't make up its mind this month as for what it wants to do....O or not O...who knows.
Here is my OPK drama so far this cycle; I'm so very confused about what it wants to do??

Below are my OPKs, they are the Answer test strips that come in 20 per pack. I'm not a huge fan but they were the cheapest I could find in a hurry.

I started testing at CD10 and I'm currently still testing because I'm not even sure ovulation has happened.

It appears to be positive at CD14 which would be "normal" for my cycles, except that I had no EWCM, no O pains, and no clear thermal shift until later. I had a positive test again on CD16 and EWCM in abundance BUT no real ovulation pains, again the next day + tests, EWCM but no real O pains!! What in the world it going on?!?!? It's like my body it trying to O but can't lol.

I'm thinking I've already ovulated now because I have 3 days of higher temps (chart) and I'm thinking I might have a bit of breast tenderness. I can't tell if it's really there or not though LOL. I'm obviously going crazy this cycle!

I did actually take a pregnancy test yesterday because FF was telling me I was 7dpo and well no self respecting POASaholic could resist a chance to pee on a stick at 7dpo. It was a blue dye test and they aren't the most reliable but it's all I have in the house right now. I'm waiting on a delivery of Internet cheapie HPTs. The picture below for your viewing pleasure:

Top test is my sisters from 7DPO she is 14DPO today and awaiting the arrival of Aunt Flow; she isn't currently trying and they had an accident on CD13 and she O'd on day 14 so.....we shall see :) Bottom test with black dot is mine from yesterday; supposed 7dpo from FF yesterday but has now been changed to 3dpo.
I see a darker fatter blue line on mine hummmmm what could this mean...probably nothing but it gives me something to obsess over so I'm happy LOL

I'm awaiting a package of Clear Blue Digital pregnancy tests and Ovulation tests, that I bought from a mama on a forum I frequent. 14 HPTs and 20 something ovulation tests! I plan to use the HPTs for a little experiment!

My fertility status today..

My fertility status today is according to FF is not fertile. BTW Fertility friend is and awesome site if you have never used it and are TTC give it a try you will love it! just click the "join now" link at the top of the page linked above. The membership is 100% free! It's the best and I've been using FF for 6 years and counting!

I'm having partial ferning, which I plan to take a picture of for you a little later today. I seem to have EWCM but I can't tell if it's actually EWCM or left-overs sorry if TMI. I haven;t given it the water tests yet and I don't have an OPKs on hand...shame on me :(

Though it's not ferning when it's dried....yes I'm looking at it under my microscope...sick i know LOL

I'm going to try and get out to buy some OPKs a little later and of course I'll update you ;)

How sensitive are "early" pregnancy tests?

How sensitive are so called early pregnancy tests?

Apparently not that sensitive. Quoting from
Quoted from

"Regular hCG is neither the principal nor the sole hCGrelated molecule present in urine on the first day of the missed period, as demonstrated in multiple studies.[5-8] Studies show that a mixture of hCGrelated molecules is present, principally hyperglycosylated hCG, with lesser amounts of regular hCG, and much smaller amounts of free beta-subunit and beta-subunit core fragment. In this study we mimic this mixture as closely as possible. Manufacturers of OTCPTs design their products strictly to measure regular hCG and sometimes also free beta-subunit. They also determine the sensitivity of their products using regular hCG. Not surprisingly then, most OTCPTs have much lower sensitivity for hyperglycosylated hCG and beta-core fragment.[2,8] Five of the products evaluated here (Clearblue Easy Earliest Results, CVS One Step, E.P.T., Eckerd One Step, and First Response Early Result) were previously evaluated using pure hCG.[3] Their analytical sensitivities were 12.5, 50, 25, 50, and 6.3 mIU/mL, respectively, quite different from the analytical sensitivities in the current study, which used urine samples much more closely mimicking those of the first day of a missed period[2,8]: 25, 100, 100, 100, and 6.3 mIU/mL, respectively. At four of the five tested concentrations the sensitivity was greatly reduced. Manufacturers need to make OTCPTs based on the real mixture of hCGrelated molecules present in urine at the time of pregnancy detection and to make clinically accurate and relevant sensitivity claims based upon detection of this mixture rather than just regular hCG, which is predominantly present alone in the later trimesters of pregnancy.[2,3,5-8]"

The test which they are talking about that detects a mere 6.3mIU/mL is First Response Early Results. Personally they aren't my favorite because I feel like they need to dry before a faint line can be seen. In my experience anyway, that was the case.

From other studies I've read; the two OTC home pregnancy tests that are most sensitive to h-hCG (the earliest pregnancy hormone see
here) are first Fact Plus and second EPT. FRER is now claiming "detects the early form of the pregnancy hormone" I'm guessing this is h-hCG, so maybe it's up with those two now?

Quoted from "S. Davies et al / Clin Lab Med 23 (2003) 257–264":

It is not uncommon for a woman to have a negative urinary home pregnancy test result around the time of her missed menstrual period but a positive serum hCG result when
assessed a few weeks later. This discrepancy may be due to the insensitivity of
a home or point-of-care pregnancy test [3]. A similar situation may occur
when a woman has a positive early pregnancy test, but a repeat urine or
serum test approximately 1 week later is negative. This is due to early
pregnancy loss [8,9]. There also is a clear variance in the sensitivity of home
and point-of-care pregnancy test devices for detecting intact hCG and HhCG:
some tests poorly detect H-hCG (the key molecule in early pregnancy),
and others more efficiently detect H-hCG than intact hCG [3]. The data from
Butler et al [3] indicate that urine devices need to be formulated to optimally
recognize H-hCG.

More to come...

My first post and a bit about my story...

A brief introduction...

My name is Allicia and I am a POAS-aholic (hi Allicia) :) I've long been addicted to taking HPTs, if you are here reading this I'm assuming you know what HPT stands for. I frequent most TTC website and obsess over other peoples faint BFP pics. It eases my desire to POAS...I just love looking at other people's tests when I don't have my own to obsess over LOL. I know that I'm not the only one who has this addiction and many women share it with know who you are :)

I figured why not blog about it? I figured it would be good to share what I go through and let other people in on the amount of info I have.

The way my addiction started; and yes I'm referring to it as an actual addiction. I had a struggle with infertility it's what I would consider kind of long; two years. I think it would have been much longer but I was aggressive enough to search doctor after doctor until I got the answer I wanted.
Infertility changes a person in ways which I can't explain. I have a sense of how special my children really are and I'm thankful for them everyday; even when they are driving me crazy :) I mean I could be without them like so many women are, makes me want to cry just thinking about it. I've also learned a new respect for life in general; pregnancy wise I mean. So very many people take it for granted and it will STILL strike a nerve with me when people refer to getting pregnant as an easy task. How dare they???? They obviously have no idea what I went through or what millions of women with fertility issues struggle with everyday!

Anyway, I feel for each and every woman whom is or has struggled with infertility. I'm so sorry that you have to go through it.

With that being said; infertility started my addiction to the stick...and here I am LOL Six years and two kids later and still addicted WTH!

Join me for my testing craziness and boatloads of info about HPT aka home pregnancy tests, OPK aka ovulation predictor kits, and every other test there is! Plus lots of giveaways!! It's going to be an adventure, I hope you stick around.
