The inside of a negative Clearblue Digital Pregnancy test

What does the inside of a Clearblue digital Pregnancy test look like when it's negative?

You've likely found your way here because you've opened a digital pregnancy tests that had a negative result, only to find a faint test line inside. Below you will find pictures of the inside of Clearblue pregnancy tests that had not pregnant or negative results. Hopefully, these pictures help so that you may compare the results of your test strips to some of these shown below. Before you scroll down, here is a little info on how a digital pregnancy test works...

Why are there often two or three lines on a digital pregnancy test when you open the case?

The digital pregnancy test captures more than one type of hCG. This is because there are many types of hCG made by our bodies in very small amounts nearly all the time. Some of the most common types are intact hCG, free subunits and degraded forms. Digital pregnancy test strips don't have to block theses trace amounts from being captured on their tests strips because their test strips aren't being examined by the human eye to determine results. Technically, we aren't supposed to see the test strip, it's meant for a mini computer to analyze. Therefore, during manufacturing the same strict controls don't need to be followed like they would for a pregnancy test that women would be reading manually.

Digital pregnancy tests are read by optical lights with specific triggers; once the control line reaches a certain density the optical reader above the test line is then triggered to read. If the density of the test line hasn't reached the proper density/intensity when the optical reader is triggered a NOT PREGNANT result is displayed.

Therefore, in the majority of cases the small amounts of hCG in the non-pregnant female will not create a dark enough test line to trigger a positive result on a digital pregnancy test, but usually will be enough to create a faint second line on the test strip inside the case of a digital pregnancy test.

This holds true for all brands and types of pregnancy test, such as Clearblue digital pregnancy test, Clearblue digital with conception indicator, First Response digital pregnancy tests, EPT digital, and any other digital pregnancy tests including generic pharmacy or store brands such as target or Walmart digital pregnancy tests.
